Photos
I share these photos just for fun. In spare moments I've been researching family history, and a few of my older relatives have sent photos the rest of us didn't know existed.
1.) My dad (far right) and his cousins about 1933
2.) My grandparents in 1926, wedding day, her parents porch -- Ruth Elizabeth Mosher m. William Allen Shackelford
3.) My great great grandfather, Joe Matthews (1847-1934), with my Aunt Jan and her friend, about 1929. Joe came from Wales around 1855, was a coal miner, could not read or write, but was said to be whiz with numbers.
4.) My great grandfather, Tom Craggs, about 1885.
This photo was likely taken when he was a fiddler on the Showboat Majestic which traveled the Ohio River.
5.) My great great grandmother, Amanda Allen Shackelford (1842-1924), photo about 1915
6.) My mom, Mary May Peters (1927-2014), in a play, about 1943.
7.) This daguerrotype was taken around 1866. It is my great great grandfather, William Shackelford (1837-1900), a painter by trade. His father, uncles, and grandfathers were all mariners or fishermen, sailing from Gloucester, MA, made famous in the movie, The Perfect Storm. My hunch is that William and his brothers were coached heavily to take trades that avoided the perils of ocean storms.
